Vendor Spotlight - Thumanns - The deli’s best

At Rivers Edge we pride ourselves on our ingredient selection and choose our vendors carefully.  Our deli turkey, ham, pastrami and corned beef are all purchased from Thumanns.  They use no fillers, MSG, gluten, or artificial flavors, artifical coloring and large amounts of salt.  From the very beginning they have superior quality cuts of meat and when the complementary spices were blended just right, none of those bad things are needed.

In 1949, Mr. Thumann decided to devote himself to bringing "The Deli Best" to the public and opened the first Thumann's plant, located in Wallington, New Jersey. The company was young and started with only 5 employees and 2 trucks. From its current location in Carlstadt, New Jersey, Thumann's has been distributing all over the country, from coast to coast, available only at the finest supermarkets and gourmet delis.

Even today, we still use Grandpa Thumann's family recipes. While he is no longer personally doing the preparation, our butchers are still using his methods. Thumann's has become one of the largest, most modern, and environmentally conscious meat processing facilities in the east.

Three generations later, Thumann's is still the family owned and operated company that Henry Thumann founded in 1949. At Thumann's, healthy, nutritious products aren't just our family's business; they are our way of life, too, just as Grandpa Thumann wanted.

 

RECIPE

Ham and Cheese Stromboli

Makes 6-8 servings
Prep Time: 60 minutes

Ingredients:

1 loaf (1 pound) frozen white bread dough, thawed
1/2 pound thinly sliced Thumann's Ham
1/2 pound sliced Thumann's Swiss cheese
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Thumann's cheddar cheese
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Thumann's pepper jack cheese
1 package (16 ounces) frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions:

On a floured surface, roll dough into an 18 in. x 12 in. rectangle. Layer with Swiss cheese, Ham, cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese and broccoli to within 1 inch of edges; sprinkle with garlic powder. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; seal seams and ends.

Place seam side down on a greased 15 in. x 10 in. x 1 in. baking pan. Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Cover loosely with foil; bake 15-20 minutes longer. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

Thumann's are just one of the local sustainable vendors that we use.  At Rivers Edge we don't cut corners and use ingredients that are less than the best.
